409 Stainless Steel Spinning
Spun 409 stainless steel is heat-resisting ferritic steel that provides good oxidation and corrosion resistance, especially as compared to carbon steel. It is commonly referred to as a titanium stabilized, chromium grade stainless steel that was developed for automotive exhaust systems. However, its good formability, weldability, and corrosion resistance have led to its use in other applications as well. 409 spun parts are nonhardenable by heat treating and are always magnetic.
Spun 409 stainless steel is produced in sheet; it can be cold worked and softened by the annealing process. 409 stainless steel is not suggested for cosmetic or surface critical applications as light surface rusting can form during exposure to atmospheric conditions.
Benefits of Alloy 409:
- Easily fabricated
- Corrosion-resistant
- Cost-effective
- Excellent formability
Common 409 spun parts applications:
