316/316L Stainless Steel Spinning

Wenzel Metal Spinning is the leading metal spinning company in the United States and is well-known for its high quality spun 316 stainless steel parts.

Stainless steel alloy 316 contains 18% chromium and 10% nickel. The higher nickel content in this grade of stainless steel allows it to demonstrate better overall corrosion resistance than alloy 304, which makes it an appropriate material solution for medical, marine or laboratory settings. 316/316L stainless steel alloy is not magnetic.

It is recommended for welding. While the hot forming capabilities of 316 stainless steel alloy are average, it can be readily cold worked.

Benefits of Alloy 316/ 316L

  • Provides excellent elevated temperature tensile, creep and stress-rupture strengths
  • Outstanding formability and weldability
  • Cost-effective
  • Extremely tough and ductile
  • 316L (the lower carbon version) is very frequently used in heavy gauge welded components

Common 316/316L spun parts applications:

  • Food preparation equipment, especially in chloride environments
  • Chemical processing, equipment
  • Laboratory benches and equipment
  • Rubber, plastics, pulp & paper machinery
  • Pollution control equipment
  • Heat exchangers
  • Condensers, evaporators, and tanks

Standards:

  • ASTM/ASME: UNS S31600 / S31603
  • EURONORM: X1 CrNiMo 17 12 2 / X3 CrNiMo 17 12 2
  • AFNOR: Z 6 CND 17-11 / Z 2 CND 17-12
